I’ve always wanted to tell the story of my uncle - Jonathan Broder - the Bureau Chief for the Chicago Tribune in the Middle East for 20 years. He was nominated for a Pulitzer but it was withdrawn for political reasons, and he almost lost everything. All of his colleagues have written books, but Jonnie never will, which is why I need to tell his story. I grew up with his war stories; it was like Hunter S. Thompson went to Beirut and then sat at my kitchen table. His stories were always frightening, mischievous and wicked. And within these stories I found a secret: war is hell, but for a select few it can also be fun.
